Deb Johnson

Administration Manager, Teacher & Singing Coach

I am a Primary School Teacher, specializing in Languages but love that I can use these skills to teach and share another love of mine – musical theatre. You’ll most likely find me teaching the musical theatre class, helping out with production classes, disappearing into the costume room or running around backstage getting students in and out of costumes in time for their next scene!
Some of my earliest memories involve my extended family around a piano (and/or organ – depends how Granddad was feeling!) and singing. I don’t really remember a time that I didn’t sing! I spent much of my primary and high school years involved in various vocal groups and choirs, numerous musicals (Oliver, Mary Poppins, Annie (twice), Half a Sixpence, Tom Sawyer, Joseph and His Technicolour Dreamcoat, Man of Steel) both at school and as part of the then called Toowoomba Junior Choral Society, as well as competing in both state and local eisteddfods. These days most of my singing outside of class is done at church as I lead a worship team. I even sat my grade 5 classical singing exam a couple of years ago.
Another lifelong love of mine is writing and I’ve also branched out into writing scripts for our students with my first play (Trouble at Brightwood Hall) having its debut with our talented senior 2020 class. This has led to other opportunities with playwriting and I always have a couple of ideas up my sleeve each year.
